Ogres Are Like Onions

I took one look at Anne's 52 Pick-me-up prompt for this week, layers, and thought, "now there's a look I can rock!"

When I was a kid I hated dressing in layers.  But I think that's because my mom's version of "dressing in layers" translated to "way too many clothes" on me.  By the time I had the coat on top of the long sleeve sweater, which was on top of the long sleeve shirt, I far too warm and thoroughly incapacitated, like a pipsqueak version of the Michelin tire man.  And when I got too hot, which I always did, and started stripping off layers, I'd have all this extra clothing to carry around and keep track of.  Nope!  As soon as I had autonomy over my own outfits I was all about one thickness of clothing with a coat over top if absolutely necessary.

And then I discovered the short over long version of layering.  Suddenly, with the addition of a long sleeve T my summer shirts and dresses became my winter shirts and dresses!

With this outfit I took it one step further adding a sleeveless sweater to the pile and giving the whole outfit a bit of everyday steampunk that I love.

Topped it all off with a wonderful old hat up-cycled by me with embroidered ribbon and a metal flower more steampunk.) Linking to The Style Crone's wonderful Hat Attack!

I got these fantastic, apparently new Clarks boots at Goodwill last year.  They are by far one of my favorite/best finds.

In other news, I had a meeting with my publisher and got the go ahead for a new book of knitting patterns.  I can't really tell you anything about it at this point other than it will include a range of projects from sweaters to scarves and hats, and maybe even an afghan, and it will be so much fun!  It also means I now have a LOT of work to do.  I'll post little sneak peeks as I can.

  1. Congratulations on the pattern book deal, how very exciting!
That's a lovely layered look, made even more special by those fabulous boots and the cool hat. xxx

  2. Great news on the book deal - well done!
The red top under your dress looks really good, love the hat band and those boots, too! x

  3. Well done on your book deal, lots to look forward to.
Love your layered look, lightweight , the best kind. Your boots are fantastic, what a great find and of course the hat.

  4. Congrats on the book!
Great outfit. I love the steampunky feel.

  5. Layers with stunning boots! I love the look and the addition of your up-cycled hat tops this ensemble off to perfection. Thank you for sharing with Hat Attack. And congratulations on your book deal. Looking forward to the "sneak peaks."

  6. Congratulations on the deal! I'm excited to see what sweet patterns will be wrought.

This look is fantastic! I adore the length of the brown cardigan thingy on you, and those boots... ! They are to live for. I've been contemplating a top hat style cap lately. I know my face shape isn't made for high crowns, but they look so dapper. Sometimes I want to dress like a toff instead of as a street urchin. :D

  7. I do love your Clarks lace-up boots, and that hat is just a stunner! Top to toe perfection!
